Obviously Rugby is Tougher than Football. The Rules for Rugby was different and Interesting also. If u want to play Rugby then u should at least have body protection equipment... I have seen a Rugby Sports Equipment mailorder specialist in Online at http://www.morrant.com/rugby_2007-2008/rugby_body_protection/3941_0c.html

i have to commend you all on your choices and reasons :)

but it has to be said, just to prevent arguments, that both sports are equally entertaining, to be watched or played ^_^ (which might make a good forum topic....;) ) keep the opinions coming!!!

Haha, looks like a lot of people are saying that rugby's tougher. I'd have to agree, but I'm a girl, and girls are allowed to play rugby, while they're discouraged from playing american football, so I can't really compare from experience. I think that it's funny that a lot of people think that rugby's way more dangerous than football, when studies have proven the opposite (http://usarugby.org/media/EDocs/IsRugbySafeForYouth.pdf). :P

Im sad to say Rugby is WAY harder than football not only cuz you have to play longer but because you dont have as much protection as you do in football all u have in rugby is something covering your ears and thats it and thats brutal compared to football

rugby

considering that rugby and football require different skills, its hard to compare. Football is bursts of speed at 10 second increments, while rugby is 2 40 minute periods of continuous play. But still any good rugby player could play football well, and visa versa. Both require you to be fast, athletic, not to mention simply good at tackling and unafraid of a hit

I play both and i would have to say rugby is more tough because yes it is continuous play except halftime and you have none or very little padding unlike football where every part of you body is padded

AJ Posted: Sep 12, 2008 at 06:13 PM EDT

Well if you play football you gotta have guts but if you play rugby, your just crazy. Id have to say rugby's tougher

Shawn Posted: Sep 12, 2008 at 05:47 PM EDT

Rugby is tougher, it's much more demanding, in football you stop for a bit after every play, rugby you're constantly running all over the field, getting into rucks and mauls and then quickly running to make the next one, there are no breaks.

Honestly i play both and during a football game i get pretty bored because of the stops and the fact that you can't do anything really during a football game. But during a rugby game that is when my lights shine bright! You get to run with or at the ball, you get to tackled, be tackled, and even break tackles, and the game keeps on going even once you hit the ground so your adrenaline is still pumping and to me therefore makes it better and tougher because it is more aggressive and blood flowing. Even how the game is set up gets me goin cuz of the different runs you can do and which can even get your forwards into the game... and finally you arent wearin a shitload of equipment :P so stating all that i would say rugby is the tougher sport!

A good question. All positions in rugby must good ball handlers, good runners, and especially good tacklers. A rugby match also has 80 minutes of physical play with essentially no stops except for injury time outs and half time. All American football players do not need to be physically dominant. Wide recievers, for example, do not need to be good tacklers. So it may be argued that from top to bottom, all good rugby players need to be tough. But some American football players can succeed with skills like speed and agility. It must also be pointed out that American football came from rugby. Sometimes players can crossover and be successful. Dan Lyle was an All American tight end for VMI who didn't play rugby until his 20's. Lyle went on to lead a professional rugby team in England, Bath Rugby, to a league championship. So some football players can definitely be as tough as rugby players. But you know which way we would vote.
