In reply to Kirks post "nope its not. at my school we say that sports dont need other sports to get em seen. like dancers dance at halftime of football games...therefore it aint a sport. marching band plays at bball games or whatever...therefore its not a sport. ".
Marching Band people at my school like to think of playing at football games extra practice. Do you think we realy want to march at those? Not really. But, getting used to a crowd gets people used to it so freshman dont freak at competitions
If You think Marching Band isnt a sport you need to come to camps or practices. 2 months burning in the sun for hours and hours every day with instrument doing drill and basic non-stop, no breaks with instruments gets tough. And thats BEFORE the real season starts. Drumline normally has extra than the rest of the band too. I play Bass3 (on drumline),...which is basically the hardest instrument to have on. The harness digs into your back and you cant see in front of you and is HEAVY. Then again, flute is the lightest, but holding your arms up at attention during basics for 30 minutes straight makes your arms feel like they are on fire.
nope its not. at my school we say that sports dont need other sports to get em seen. like dancers dance at halftime of football games...therefore it aint a sport. marching band plays at bball games or whatever...therefore its not a sport. :)
you are so completely ignorant, wait was that word too big for you?? that means S-T-U-P-I-D! and why don't you try it? oh right, you're too 'cool' for band or color guard. did you know that people who are in band are proven to be more sucessful? I personally am not in band, I'm in color guard, but I know plenty of people who are and they work harder than anyone else that I know. and by the way, only the percussionist 'bang' on their instruments. before you go assuming that marching band isn't a sport or it's only for 'nerds' you need to get your freaking facts straight, idiot.
im sory but im working my #!& of in the wrestling room while you guys r walking around with tuba's and stuff. do wat i do for one day and you wont think band is a sport
ya but think about it, you not walking around for 8 hrs a day for a week with 20 pund of tuba on your shoulders. you can rest when you working out but when your marching you dont get to rest till your done
it's not 'walking around'. it's marching and it actually requires some kind of technique and that takes a lot of practice. just think about, where would your football team be without your band to play when the opposing team gets to their side of the field? ours would be completely lost because they cant play football at all! our band plays so loud that we get pentalized all in the name of helping our football team win. we are soo underappreciated it's not even funny! we are the only thing in our whole freaking school that actually wins and no one even cares. and before you make assumptions about band, why don't you do what I do everyday and you will think that band and color guard are sports. I go out everyday in 100 degree weather during the summer and I work my butt off. Why don't you try doing a 45 degree angle toss, not hit yourself, while you're jazz running, trying to stay in step, count, and catch your flag at the same time? do you think you could do that? I don't think you could
