Ouch! Tell me your worst cheer injury story!
Cheerleading is a pretty rough sport, and we tend to get hurt quite a bit! Unlike those other sports (*ahem* most of them *ahem*) we don't wear any protective gear, so things tend to get a little bumpy. Tell me about your best/worst cheer injury! Or maybe you've been lucky and it was just someone on the squad... either way...

we were practicing for cometition which was 2 weeks away. we were doing a pyramid stunt and the flyer fell out of the stunt and landed on the bases head. the base sprained her neak and she couldnt move. it was at the same time when there was a huge storm, and she couldnt move and so we had to call an ambulance and it took they 20 min to get there which is a long time when she was laying on the ground screaming and crying, and no one could do anything to help her.

umm ive only had a couple concussions thank goodness, however in a transitional pyramid we did one of the back spots ended up getting kicked in the face when her flyer dropped to a split and broke her nose....also one of my good friends was pulling a roundoff backhandspring back tuck and dislocated her knee on the gym floor.

JV year I was fronting a new flyer that was learning her twist & when she spun around her legs came apart and kicked me and one of the bases. I had a big bump on my forehead & a bruise for a week and the other girl had a popped lip. The JV coach actually caught it on video and replays it at every party we have :(

im a flyer myself and i was about to do a thighstand double which was an easy stunt for my group so they threw me as hard as they could to get more height... coming around for my 2nd twist...about to open to catch myself.. my main base came too close n my elbow smashed her in the face! she was fine for about 2 secs untill my coach went to touch her nose n it completly lik fell apart in my coaches hands!! there was blood all over my coach n the girl... we later found out that i had broken her nose and cheek bone in lik 5 different places. i knew it was bad when my elbow bruised within the same day! shes fine now got herself a nosejob n looks great n shes still one of my closest cheerleading friends!!!

I saw a girl in competition totally get her teeth knocked right out of her face when she got kicked by a tumbler. It was insane. Teeth and blood were flying everywhere!

just recently we did a new dance and we had a group of girls in a circle so we decided to do a basket toss. well none of us had worked together so we were warming up before the game. after we tried it like twice the third time one of the bases caught the flyer completely on her chest. she couldnt breathe the rest of the game.

i have a few.... my first year on jv i was tumbling and my ankle gave. i didnt think anything of it so i just kept going. by the end of practice i was walking on the side of my foot. i went to the hospital and turns out it was soo badly sprained that the ligament in my ankle was disingrating (disappearing) now i have sooo many problems with it, its insane. we went to a fundraiser/ talent show thing that was outside and one of my team mates was tumbling on the black top. 2 ladies werent paying attention and walked right in front of her tumble pass. she ended up having a concussion. we were warming up for a comp. and when we were putting up our ending pyramid one of our flyers lost their stablity and fell taking the entire pyramid down since she was the center. 2 of the flyers hit soo hard that they were knocked out for a few seconds. and the backs were knocked out of breath. it was really bad but we pulled it together and took 2nd!!!

I'm not in cheerleading, but im in a sport where we have no protective gear. One year, our team had like these cape things on their uniforms, and someone stepped on this one girls while she was moving and it flipped her backwards and knocked her out in the middle of a show. Also we had a girl break a collar bone and another girl fracture her jaw, now she has to get a metal plate put in her face. Its crazy.

I have a few .. There was this girl at competition .. she fell from a thigh stand and totally hurt her ankle!! She was in AH-GONY. Another one is: This guy on this squad that my squad is really close to.. He was the back of the stunt, and his girlfriend was flying, so she cradles but she cradles wrong so she falls on her boyfriend, and she's kind of bigger than he is, so like he totally rallies his neck!! Then, on my squad, one of the bases in my group totally got rallied in the nose she was fine and then WHAM blood starts shooting out like a waterfall!! I was like whoa!! And we were at a gym, practicing before comp and we were like, Ohmigosh!! Last one is: I was backing this stunt. It was just a prep, so I though okay we got this. The bases had it .. the flyer didn't. she butts out, and she totally lands on me, with her elbow right in my eye!! I had a black eye for two weeks. Everyone said it was totally hot.

My coach was telling me about how at a competition a few years ago, there was a girl from another team who's bases didn't catch her properly, and like, on of the bones in her legs broke so bad it sticking out of her skin. Freaks me out soooo much! I never want to see anyone's bones ever!!

these stories are lame.

Tamara Posted: Nov 15, 2008 at 12:58 AM EST

It was the first competition of the season and I was warming up my tumbling passes on the non spring floor. When I was tumbling, the pressure of my arms hitting the floor made my elbow crack and but i thought nothing of it cause it wasn't very sore. Out on the competition floor, we were performing and i was doing my tumbling pass. I guess from cracking my elbow and the way my elbow was when I was tumbling, it tried to hyper extend itself but it didnt work, so instead all the ligaments tore in my elbow. I couldn't finish the routine, but we still got first place! =) after that I was out for a couple months and was told I needed surgery. I ended up not getting surgery and a year later im still waiting for it to heal. but im still cheering! YAY! =D

Rach Posted: Sep 14, 2008 at 07:08 PM EDT

K so i was missing my normal double base on the side of my pyramid and the put a new top in to take her place...this top was too short so when they threw me (i was going to do a superman basket toss intro a front tuck basket, which normally works out very nicely) i flew out of her hands and the other top on the otherside of the pyramid is very tall jolts me up too high too....i came crashing down on my neck ,fractured me ankle adn tore my neck muscles.

On BlackWidow I was at cheer camp and i did a simple backhandspring adn fractured my wrist and right before that on our first day of camp i got hit in the face and broke my nose...TALK ABOUT A TOUGH YEAR?!

I was at a cheer competition for my competitive cheer gym Cheer Fusion in TEXAS. AT this competition we got to practie a little early and i was suppose to throw my Full. I threw a couple and landed them all great. And the last one that i threw i tore my ACL and both meniscuses on both sides of my knee, i also popped my knee cap out of place. My Coach said i had to compete beacuse no one could do my spot. So I competed on my torn ACL later that day and then the next day. I had surgery in January, but its all better now i'm back to throwing my full again. i wasn't going to let it hold me back for all my dreams i had for cheer.

Kasey Posted: Sep 14, 2008 at 12:17 PM EDT

I tore my ACL and meniscus during competition last year. We did a few jumps and I guess I landed wrong? I came down to do a move and my leg instantly felt like jello. Had surgery and now I'm good as new :)

christina Posted: Sep 13, 2008 at 11:08 AM EDT

it was at cheerforce summer camp this year and we were doing dubble base fulls. (this was my first time throwing a full, but everyone else had done it before) so we're standing there in dubble base and when we sink and throw, my side base throws it foward instead of up and I get a good spinning kick to the head. this threw me right to the ground... however i sprung back up pritty quickly. but I was having trubble thinking straight for the rest of the day.... hmmmmmmm I wonder why???

holly Posted: Sep 13, 2008 at 10:25 AM EDT

well i went to the university of western ontario cheer camp and we were thromwing baskets, im a backspot so the top piked and when she came back she smacked me right in the nose and my nose exploded blood and i had to go to the hospital because i couldnt remember anything that had happened and even now i dont remember the stunt that hit me or anything for about 2 hours after i was hit, i went to the hospital and i dont remember that either its pretty bad and my nose has hurt still for about a month

vision Posted: Sep 12, 2008 at 10:39 PM EDT

i've mainly only got hurt a lot time and thats was when i went up in a pyramaid doing a liberty in a full and fell forward towards the grown and when i tried to do a roundoff full on flat ground

sarah Posted: Sep 12, 2008 at 08:50 PM EDT

i was basing a kick single basket toss and it was the first time the flyer tried it and when she came down she spazzed out and i had to catch her on my own and she ended up bending my ring finger back and braking it. when learning to double down from heel stretches my flyer stopped and i was backing and the full force from her arms hit me in the face so that i fell to the ground knocked out. another time i was basing a pyramid and one of the side stunts fell and that flyer elbowed me in the head, i had a concussion. i got hurt so many times in high school it was crazy.
