Marching band is NOT a sport, but I do have to agree with this...
If band was easy, it would be called football; If football was easy, it would ba called cheerleading.

Im kinda getting ticked off becuz some of u ppl just think its drumline that does the work. Im gonna quote this.... "One band, One sound"... Thats that! Marching band takes as much work as any other sport does. Theres not just on section. We are a complete band.

I don't think marching band is a sport at all. Drumline and DCI now those come close to it. It just all depends on how hardcore the line is but usually our drumline always intimidates the band physically and mentally they can't keep up. Thats why there is the drumline and then there are the wanna be people who cant handle a real sport so they do band.

ok I am in wrestling, football, track, and soccer. I was also in band until this year and I did 2 weeks of marching band before I quit. Marching band was easy as %*%$ and required no physical endurance or stamina. That is why you see extremely unathletic kids and out of shape kids out there doing it. I had to memorize more for football than band when I did it. Football is hard as hell band doesnt even come close to comparing and this is from a person that did band

marching band is not really a sport for those who play intruments such as flute, clarinet, and etc.

marching band is a sport for those that have to lug a huge drum and tuba around. it just depends.

but DRUM CORPS DEFINATELY IS A SPORT! THERE'S NO DOUBTING THAT.

All these ppl talking bout marching being hard and !@*$. Do you people even comprehend the pain and $@$& we go throught during varsity football camp? I mean it goes on the whole year, but camp is when we really get our butts kicked. I mean c'mon. You guys march around with flutes and $%@@. We sprint and hit and roll and all those nifty things so when it comes game time we can win, and all you guys have to do is blow on ur instruments. So don't think that for one minute marching band is a sport. Its not. Its a... club. And dont say that its harder than football... cuz, haha, its not even close to being as hard as golf.

Ok, marching band with the trumpets and stuff isnt a sport. But competetive drumline (that i am) is a sport. We do have dedication and we do work long hours to be good so ya marching band not a sport but drumline is.

Okay so I've cheered played volleyball ran cross country and I run track and dance. Not to mention I'm a manager for our football team so I'm at all the practices, drills, and meetings. So therefor I've had a taste of it all and to me, band is not a sport and not even close to being as hard as football. Our team is out there getting hit and hitting each other at practice till about 8 o'clock every single night. And plus...most band memebers have a hard time running the track. If band was a sport as you say, running around the track would be a piece of cake. I give you credit because you have alot to remember and learn from sheet music but its still not sport.

you think cheerleading is easy..haha take a step in my shoes for one day just one day and see how easy it really is. it isnt you have to work hard getting stunts down to a T and one little mess up you get sent off to do 50 pushups then run through the routine again.(thats just on my team but seriously its harder than you thing) you try memorizing every movement in 60 8 counts to preform it in 2mins and 30 seconds. ive done marching band and its hard. but seriously i would rather have to go through band camp again than i would cheer camp. our camps are brutial. again dont diss unless youve tried it atleast. and again..dont compare marchingband to football OR cheerleading.

Ok so i did cheer for a little bit and i think that's a sport. Why wouldn't marching band be a sport? we ahve to wake up @ 4 in the morning be at the school by 5 30, stay on the field untill 7 30. go to school, have sectionals, memorize tons of sets. memorize our music, its takes physical AND mental endurance, its the same as football. they have to memorize plays and drills which requires both mental and physical endurance. Seriously its hard work! especially for the drumline. they have to march with freakin heavy drums. i'm a woodwind and its really tough for us flutes (and piccolo players!!!!) to do hip switches. So for everyone who doesn't think marching band is a sport, ponder what i've said and try it out for yourself before you make judgements. you sound really stupid if you haven't tried it out yourself and you just assume it's easy.
