“I tell them that when I’m scouting a player, watching film, the minute I see a guy jogging a route, that film goes in the garbage.” I encourage every potential recruit to remember that quote and compete on every single play of your athletic lives. You never know who is watching! http://www.ncsasports.org/saef-takkle

College coaches have limited scholarships available and their jobs are on the line if they can’t produce results. Losing players to suspension is a major blow to any program. Coaches will continue to monitor their athletes with any tool possible. Recruits need to realize that the same type of scrutiny will fall on them. Don’t throw away a potential scholarship by posting a “funny” picture on the Internet that can come back to haunt you.

Only a few years ago coaches usually took the majority of their recruits from inside their state borders. That has drastically changed. Right now the Wisconsin Badger 2009 recruiting class has only 4 in state commits as opposed to 12 out-of-staters. If coaches are willing to look further out, then recruits should take advantage and do the same. By using technology like NCSA’s Scouting Report athletes can easily promote themselves across the country. If you want to maximize your options, I suggest getting started today.

For most high school students the school year has either started or will soon.First things first, get on the field. Coaches recruit the most talented players in their areas. They want to see you compete against the best, and in order to do that you need to be on the varsity stage. This is the easiest way to jump start your recruiting season. Get on the field in any way you can.

”Get Moving!” You hear that term a lot as a high school athlete. You probably hear it from parents, teachers and coaches. Athletes seeking a scholarship to play college sports need to get moving in the recruiting game. College coaches start identifying prospects earlier than ever before and this week Texas Coach Mack Brown confirmed that trend and admitted that his staff has files on high school freshman.

Relationship Building and Recruiting are two skills that go hand in hand in college athletics. Coaches are always striving to build their recruiting networks and develop solid contacts at high schools, camps and most importantly with student athletes. The time tables involved in that cycle have been getting earlier and earlier in recent years. Since slots are being snatched up by athletes earlier than ever before its up to recruits to jumpstart the process and start contacting coaches pro-actively.
