    • Two Common Mistakes. Perhaps the two most common mistakes aspiring athletes make regarding recruiting is waiting too long to learn how the process works and then not taking action on this knowledge. For example, kids regularly wait until they are seniors in high school before seriously thinking about college recruiting, or doing something about it. This is a huge mistake. If a good student-athlete expects to have a chance to play at the college level he or she needs to prepare, academically and personally, for this opportunity.

    • Recruiting - the Once-in-a-lifetime Opportunity. Some things in life can be attempted, failed at, relearned and tried again. It happens every day. Kids learning to ride bicycles get on and fall off numerous times before eventually one day hopping on and confidently heading down the street. The first time you make the mistake of mixing in a dark shirt with your white clothing in the washing machine is a lesson you learn from and avoid the next time you do laundry. Miss a ground ball, free throw or free kick? Scratch on the long jump, double fault or jump off sides? Not to worry, another chance will happen shortly. But, in recruiting you get one chance. That's it - high school kids are recruited once in their lives and they only get one chance to get it right or the opportunity is lost forever. (Last three announcements are from the NSR webpage)

Name's Michael Stocker, i play free safety at South Mecklenburg High School. I had to bail out of my last season due to left forearm surgery. This will be my sophomore year so i will play jv this year but coach said i will probably play varsity next year. I have a lot of potential to become a star athlete for this team. I also have a great desire to win and a passion for the game. I work #*$$ *% and off the field and will do anything to get into any school on a scholarship...

Timar Posted: Jul 24, 2008 at 06:11 PM EDT

My name Timar Jones and i attend Lake View High School of SC. I play football and im really good at it. I started playing my junior year which was last year and got alot of playtime over starters that played for like 3 years. I'm told i am suppose to be a top recruit of 09 but i started my football career late and didnt attend any football camps. Now i regret playing so late in school when i could have started my freshman year. I'm told i have the potential to be recruited by a big time school but i dont think they come out to our games much. But im goin into my senior year this year and i gained 20 pounds makin me 175 now and last year i only weighed 150. Im 5'9 and this year im goin to be playin positions such as RB/FB/DB/KR/WR....im a really good athlete wanting to be recruited by any school...Im fast i run a 4.50 40 time......but any college recruit call me at 843-430-7621

Jess Posted: Jul 12, 2008 at 08:49 AM EDT

Hey my name is Jess O'Sullivan. I'm going to be a sophmore at Groton Dunstable High School in Groton, MA. I play softball and i would love to have the opportunity to play softball at college. I made varsity as a freshmen and i started as a first basemen and pitcher and at the end of the season i had a .375 batting average. I can also play outfield at any position and i enjoy it just as much as pitching. I'm just out here to get noticed and be able to go to a college that has a great sports program. In school I made honor roll and high honors and my classes have all been honors classes. I would love to go to virginia tech or university of arizona but anywhere with a softball program and good academic program is perfect for me. Thanks

Rian Posted: Jun 28, 2008 at 01:15 PM EDT

Hey my name is Rian OQuinn and I'll be a junior this fall at Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville, TN. I play softball and am interested in receiving a college scholarship to play the sport I love. I've started on the Varsity at my high school since my freshman year. The positions I have played are right field, short stop, and last year I played second base for the first time in my softball career as a sophomore and was named MVP for the 07-08 season. I'm just trying to get noticed and be able to go to a great college and play a sport.

Anjali Posted: Jun 12, 2008 at 01:05 PM EDT

Hi my name is Anjali Natarajan, I am 17 years old and I am going to be a senior at the Sarasota Military Academy. I am also going to dual enroll at Manatee Community College part time during my senior year. I used to play lacrosse for my high school (which just so happens to be the first public charter military high school in the country) but now I play for my county's team called "Sarasota Surge." My first year playing was my sophomore year and I was the lead scorer on my team. Last year I was the goal keeper so I didn't get much field work, but since this year is my last year, I am going back to my position as attack wing. I have a 4.0 GPA and most of my classes have been honors classes. I prefer to go to UCSB, USCLA or even UF would be AMAZING! but I think anywhere with lacrosse would be perfect for me =]
