Arch Bishop Stepinac vs. Wadleigh Dominic Jones scored a game high 19 points and Curtis Loving chipped in 14 as Wadleigh defeated Arch Bishop Stepinac 66-53 in the second game of the afternoon. Melquan Bolding led the Crusaders with 15 points in the loss.

MVP Dominic Jones 6’0 Sr. Guard (Wadleigh)- Jones penetrated deep into Stepinac’s defense and created scoring opportunities. His crossover allowed him to get to the cup and his strength helped him score in the lane. He has an excellent showing running the point.

Other Top Performers

Curtis Loving 6’5 Soph. Forward (Wadleigh)- The transfer from Rice showed some freakish athleticism with some tough rebounds and above the rim finishes. If his handle and jumper develops he will be a high major prospect.

Melquan Bolding 6’4 Soph. Forward (Arch Bishop Stepinac)- Bolding started the game hot but cooled off in the second half. When his shot wasn’t falling he did other things like rebound and playing defense. Wadleigh’s box and one defense caused him some problems late.

Game 3

St. Raymond’s vs. Springfield Gardens Torrence McGill hit the game clinching foul shots with 2 seconds left to give St. Raymond’s a 72-68 victory over Springfield Gardens. Gerald Colds lead the winners with 16 points while Darryl Bryant and Torrence McGill dropped 15 markers apiece for the Ravens. Charles Jenkins tried to keep SG in the game while finishing with a game high 32 points in the loss.

Wadleigh Basketball Combine New York, NY – The Nike SPARQ Team Challenge Northeast tour returned to Harlem on Thursday to test the basketball program at Wadleigh Secondary School. The Harlem Hellfighters, which is the most unique team name we have seen on tour, are coming off an 18-7 record last year. Wadleigh, coached by Michael Crump, plays in the PSAL AA Division, which is the highest level of competition in New York City’s public school league. After reaching the Elite 8 last year in the city championship, Wadleigh is eyeing a deeper run and an appearance at Madison Square Garden this season.

Thursday’s testing resulted in the highest individual SPARQ Rating of the Northeast tour thus far, with Curtis “McLovin” Loving finishing at 84.25. The 6’5” Loving, who describes himself as an “aggressive and athletic” scoring forward, wowed the NSTC crew as he finished with team-highs in each of the five tests. Loving, who said he doesn’t train much, describes his jaw-dropping athleticism as “a God given gift.” After the testing, Loving and the rest of the team displayed their hops in an impromptu dunk session, throwing down 360’s and tomahawks. Loving had a few SportsCenter worthy dunks, once when he jumped over his teammates for the flush and again when he rocked the cradle like MJ going baseline.

Loving, who hasn’t decided where he will play next year, has set a goal to get a scholarship in college. We were impressed with his tenacity in a scrimmage after the testing; that kind of persistence should help take him to the next level. It was impressive to meet an athlete so sure of himself. Loving described himself as “the best athlete in the state of New York” and “the 2nd best athlete in the country after Demar Derozen,” who is ranked by ESPN as the 9th best player in the class of 2008. Loving actually outperformed DeRozen in SPARQ Testing, as the California baller had a rating of 79.71 last week. Loving said he enjoys watching Tracy McGrady play, but doesn’t try to play like his NBA idol. “I try to play like myself,” said Loving. The athletic forward says this year’s Wadleigh team will be best of the last few years. His team goal is to reach the Garden, and says that he wants to do it for the rest of his team as well. He said, “these guys deserve to play there.” When asked to finish the phrase “I am ______,” Loving summed up his team-first mentality by stating “I am my team!”

Wadleigh finished with a team SPARQ Rating of 69.47. In addition to Loving’s outstanding rating William Harrison rated at 75.13. As a team, Wadleigh players pushed each other to top each other in the rankings.

Wadleigh Tigers vs Wings Academy Wings This should be a really good game between 2 teams that are in 1st place in their divisions. Wings is 8-0 in the Bronx PSAL AA and Wadleigh is 7-1 in the Manhattan PSAL AA division. Both teams have quality players who can put up big numbers. Here's my prediction on this game. Wings is still loaded with players like Jamie Harris, Kidani Brutus, David Williamson, Beijon Warrington and Jabor Forde. Wadleigh will have to try to contain Harris, who is tearing up the league, scoring 19 points and dishing out 10 assists per game. The problem with concentrating so much on Harris is that Brutus is averaging 15 points per game, Williamson is scoring 12 points per game and Warrington just scored 17 points in his last game. Wadleigh will rely on Joshua Watkins, who is scoring 25 points per game and dishing out 7 assists each night. Wadleigh has their fair share of great players too. Beside Watkins, Phyllip Jordan has been very consistent, averaging 12 points and 12 boards per game, Jeremy Bell is scoring 10 points per game and grabbing 8 rebounds and junior Curtis Loving is averaging 15 points and 14 rebounds per game. After going through the breakdown of the teams it looks like it wil lbe a very close game that can go either way. WRONG! Wings is just too good to fall to Wadleigh right now. MADMAN Predicts: Wings wins this one but Wadleigh will put up a fight. Harris will score his points and Brutus will be a key contributor in the win for Wings.

Another team to be reckoned with is Wadleigh. Coach Mike Crump’s squad was well represented by 6’5” wing Curtis Loving, 6’5” scorer William Harrison, 6’4” athlete Phyllip Jordan and 6’4” wing Terrence Henderson. Loving is a strong, versatile wing who has the chance to become a lock down defender and impact player at the next level. Not many people have the knack for scoring like Harrison, who seems to always be in the right spot. Jordan is a super athlete. The best play of the night was an underhanded alley-oop from Loving to Jordan – who came flying down the lane for the slam.
