About Me:

Hello My Name is Tyler Hinton. I am not exactly what you would call a rower. I do not paddle flat water. I paddle White Water Canoe Slalom. Unlike rowing i am in a 3.5 meter long carbon boat. That boat weighs 10 Kg and I use an all Carbon paddle that is 56 inches long. Another great aspect about Canoe Slalom is that the race is held on whitewater. This adds a new factor into each and every race. Your field is always changing. You are always on something new. The idea of each race is to be fast and clean. In a typical race there are anywhere from 18-23 gates. There are 6-8 red up steam gates and all the rest are green down stream gates. Each gate is about 5 feet wide and the gates are lifted off the water about 1 foot, they are placed anywhere in the river. If you happen to touch a gate you will get a 2 seconds added to your time. If you miss a gate you will get 50 seconds added to your time. When you have only 2 90 second runs any error matters.In canoe slalom there are 5 different classes of boats there is K1m and K1w, there are typical kayaks which you are sitting down in your boat and using a 2 sided paddle and your boat must weigh 9.5 Kg. Then there is C1m and C1w, In C1 you are knelling up in your boat and using a one sided paddle and your boat must weigh 10 kgs. Then there is C2 which is like C1 but with 2 people in a boat. This boat is 1.8 meters longer and weighs 15 kgs.
